REHABILITATION POST COVID-19

Encompass Health 

The COVID-19 virus doesn’t just affect the lungs in critically ill patients. It causes an “inflammatory storm” of cytokines that attack every organ including the brain, muscles and nerves. APHASIA TREATMENT & RECOVERY

Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC)
HARC is open for participants with aphasia, their caregivers, families and volunteers. The entry point for
new participants and caregivers is the Introductory Program that evaluates communication ability and
provides techniques for communicating with people with aphasia. To start, call for more information and to
​set up a tour of the facility. After the screening process is complete, you will participate in the Introductory Program. After that, you and your caregiver will be part of the HARC family.

DRIVNG EVALUATION 

Strowmatt Rehabilitation Services
We are a Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation licensed driving School and a member of the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists that provides Occupational Therapy services that are specific to Driver Rehabilitation services

Types of Evaluation/Training - Clinical evaluation, Behind the wheel evaluation, Car evaluation, Van evaluation and Behind the wheel training.

Equipment Prescription - Prescriptions for vehicle modifications expressing the client's preferred brands
and detailing justification will be sent to the client's physician for signature. Prescriptions are generally not written until the DPS test for vehicle/vans has been successfully passed.

Scope of Services - We provide driver evaluation and training services to persons with medical conditions that may effect their driving capacity. Additionally, staff occupational therapists provide independent living skill evaluations and training to assess the need for special equipment and devices

Goal of Services - To determine the client's capacity to operate a vehicle independently, in their environment. TOBACCO CESSATION

Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention Division of Harris County Public Health (HCPH)
  • Supports two free tobacco cessation programs
  • Trained facilitators from HCPH implement the Texas Quitline and Fresh start programs.
  • ​Tobacco users, residing in Harris County are eligible to participate (once screened) through a brief intervention program: Ask. Advise. Refer.

  1. Participants are involved in a series of four 60-minute work sessions over a four-week period (modifiable)
  2. Facilitators help track the average number of tobacco uses of each participant throughout the program and provides strategies to handle obstacles to assist participants in quitting smoking
  3. Participants are then referred to the Texas Tobacco Quitline where they have the flexibility and convenience of having a trained counselor (a Quit Coach) contact them to help form an effective quit plan.

Provides services where clinically trained pharmacists work with you, your physicians and other health care professionals to ensure your medications are safe and effective to help manage your medical conditions.

Clinical pharmacist specialists:
  • Adjust medications and simplify regimens for specific conditions as designated by your physician.
  • Review medications for adverse drug and food interactions
  • Provide medication therapy education
  • Offer lifestyle modification techniques
  • Work closely with other members of your healthcare team to ensure that your medical needs are addressed.

HARRIS HEALTH SYSTEM
Harris Health System's provides healthcare to Harris County residents. While medical care is not free at the facilities, there is financial assistance for those who qualify. Patients are asked to make a minimum payment at the time of their hospital or clinic visit, except for pediatric and prenatal care visits. Harris Health Service fees do not apply to patients in the Healthcare for the Homeless Program or other insurance plans.
